A trip to California to say some Goodbyes :-(

We got home from Colorado and took a look at the calendar and realized that we only really have 3 weeks left before we leave. We decided that this would be the only week we would be able to head to California to see Tony's parents, brothers and sister and a couple of friends. So here we are in Highland California looking up at all the snow on Big Bear! Wow is it pretty! We are enjoying our time here and hope to be eating some homemade flour tortillas soon! We will be leaving here on Friday to return home and pack and finish up some details. Amie is having a going away party for us on the 22nd from 12-4 if anyone would like to come. It is being catered by Krista and Jesse Cowan and Dream Dinners.

Back home, now it is time to hit the road running!

We are finally home after a great 3 week training experience in Palmer Lake Colorado. We learned so much about how to get along with a team of people that we didn't know prior to coming to the training. We learned how to handle conflict among teams and most importantly how to open up and be vulnerable with each other and the other team mates. While we were there we got a call from the missionaries on the team in Peru and they found us an apartment in the same complex as them! We are so excited! It is a 3 bedroom so lots of room for visitors!

Now it is time to get back to work and raise the rest of our support! We are getting really close and it has been awesome to see the people that God is putting into our lives to help us out financially as well as prayerfully. We can't do it without either and we soooo appreciate all of you. We will be trying to get around to all the @groups that we have not been to yet. Our departure date will be March 3, so there is not much time left to get a lot of things done. We still have to figure out what will be taking in our 4 suitcases! We need prayer for this!

If there is any questions that we can answer for you please feel free to either call or email us at castanedaperu@yahoo.com. We would love to hear from you anytime!

Life at Missions Training International

Hello Friends and Family,

We are currently on week 3 of a three week adventure in missionary training at Mission Training Institute in Palmer Lake Colorado. It has been very informational and we have learned a lot about ourselves, each other and how to relate in another culture without offending them too much! We survived being taken hostage by some "terriosts" and have learned to live with 36 other adults and 7 children! The facility here is very nice. We have our own room and bath. We go to class M-F 8:45 to 4:00. We all get together for meals which have been prepared for us and then we “hang” out in the evenings and on the weekends playing games, hiking or whatever else comes up. We spent the first weekend with our Nephew David. He lives about 40 minutes away. It was great getting to know him and his wonderful family. The next weekend we hooked up with Sam Fischer, the pastor that married us 31 years ago. He pastors a small church about 30 minutes from here. It was great sharing old times and catching up on the last 31 years! We also went to Focus on the Family Headquarters. This is some place that I have always wanted to go. I was a little disappointed at what there was to see but at least I can cross it off my list of things to do before I die!

Our departure date for Peru is March 3, 2009. We will be staying with the other American missionary family in Trujillo until we can find an apartment. Once we find one we will begin trying to figure out where to buy everything we will need to make it our home for the at least the next 3 years. It will not be like here in America where you can just go to one place like Target or Wal-mart. We will have to go to many different places to get the different items that we will need. I am sure that this will be very chaotic to say the least! 2 weeks after we arrive we will begin Spanish lessons in our home for 4 hours a day Monday - Friday. The weekends will be free to attend church (Spanish speaking of course) and to just relax from the week of trying to learn a new language. We are told it will take about 6 years to become proficient in the language.

We are both very excited to GO! but not without some apprehension about leaving our families. They have all been very understanding and supportive. We still have some money support to raise and would like to have some more prayer partners. If you are not already a Prayer Partner and or Financial Partner and would like to be please drop us an email at castanedaperu@yahoo.com. We can’t do it without you! Please keep all of us in your prayers as we make our final preparations.
